Concerns have been raised over ongoing peace negotiations in Katsina State after bandits reportedly arrived at a dialogue session with heavy weapons.
The meeting, held on Saturday in Matazu Local Government Area, brought together community leaders, Islamic clerics, government officials, security operatives, and leaders of armed groups.
Eyewitnesses said one of the bandit leaders attended the talks with Rocket-Propelled Grenades (RPGs), General Machine Guns (GMGs), and AK-47 rifles.
The presence of such weapons created tension among participants and residents, who have faced repeated attacks, abductions, and other security challenges in the area.
Community leaders and clerics at the meeting described the incident as worrying, noting that peace efforts may not succeed unless all parties commit to disarmament.
They also called on the government and security agencies to ensure that future dialogues prioritize the safety of communities.
Authorities have not yet issued an official statement on the incident.
