Musa Na Allah, Sokoto
The former Governor of Sokoto State, Attahiru Dalhatu Bafarawa, has formally resigned from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to focus attention on a newly founded platform, the Northern Star Youths Empowerment Initiative (NSYEI), which was recently launched at Arewa House Kaduna.
Bafara, a two-term former Governor of Sokoto state, presented his resignation letter to the PDP National Chairman, Damagun, on 8 January 2025, which was received by the national office on 13 January 2025.
In a resignation letter made available to Journalists in Sokoto, Bafarawa said he resigned from the PDP to avoid a conflict of interest between his membership and his leadership of NSYEI, an NGO he co-founded and launched at the tail end of 2024.
“I will now focus attention on creating awareness for youth entrepreneurship and empowerment initiatives aimed at making them self-productive, reducing redundancy, and becoming self-reliant.
“I wish people’s Democratic party and its leadership the very best in all its future endeavors.
“I appreciate the opportunity given to me to contribute my quota to the development of the party as a card-carrying member.”
Until he resigned from the party, Bafarawa was a strong pillar of the PDP who strongly supported Senator Aminu Waziri Tambuwal in his bid to serve for a second term as governor when he parted ways with his political mentor and Godfather, Sen. Aliyu Magatakarda Wammako, in 2019.
