The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has suspended its two-week warning strike across public universities.

The suspension was announced on Wednesday by ASUU President, Chris Piwuna, during a press conference at the union’s national headquarters in Abuja.

Piwuna explained that the decision followed interventions by the Senate and other prominent Nigerians who urged the union to give dialogue another chance.

He disclosed that the National Executive Council (NEC) of ASUU resolved to grant the Federal Government a one-month grace period to address all pending issues that prompted the industrial action.

According to him, the union remains steadfast in its commitment to the welfare of academic staff and the revitalisation of public universities.

Piwuna warned that if the government fails to meet ASUU’s demands within the given timeframe, the union would have no choice but to reconvene and decide on further action.
