Arsenal have completed the signing of England international Noni Madueke from Chelsea in a deal worth an initial £48.5 million, potentially rising to just over £50 million with add-ons.
The 23-year-old winger, who featured for Chelsea at the Club World Cup in the U.S., left the squad ahead of their 3-0 final win over Paris Saint-Germain to finalize his move to north London. He has signed a five-year contract with the Gunners.
Taking to Instagram after the move, Madueke wrote: “Humbled and blessed to be here. Thank you to everyone that made this possible. I can’t wait to get on the pitch and start to repay the faith shown in me. It’s going to be so special.”
Madueke joined Chelsea from PSV Eindhoven in January 2023 for £30 million. During his 18-month spell at Stamford Bridge, he made 92 appearances, scored 20 goals, and played a key role in their UEFA Conference League triumph last season.
Before his time in the Netherlands, where he won the Dutch Cup with PSV, Madueke was part of the youth setups at Crystal Palace and Tottenham. He made his senior England debut in August 2024 and provided the assist for Harry Kane’s winner in a 1-0 World Cup qualifying victory over Andorra.
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta welcomed the arrival, saying:
“Noni is an exciting and powerful young player, with consistently high-level performances in recent seasons. At just 23, he already brings valuable experience at both club and international level and knows the Premier League well. We’re delighted to add him to our squad.”
Despite Arteta’s endorsement, Madueke’s signing sparked backlash from some Arsenal fans earlier this month. A petition titled #NoToMadueke gained over 5,000 signatures, and angry supporters even defaced murals near the Emirates Stadium with messages such as “Arteta Out.”
Nonetheless, the deal went ahead, making Madueke Arsenal’s fourth summer signing and their second acquisition from Chelsea following goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga. Midfielders Christian Nørgaard (Brentford) and Martín Zubimendi (Real Sociedad) have also joined the squad.
The Gunners are reportedly close to completing deals for Sporting striker Viktor Gyökeres and Valencia defender Cristhian Mosquera as their summer overhaul continues.
