The Nigeria’s Armed Forces have renewed their commitment to a relentless nationwide offensive against terrorism and violent crime, pledging to prosecute all operations with strict professionalism, discipline and unwavering adherence to the rules of engagement.

The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Olufemi Oluyede, gave the assurance on Friday at the Chief of Defence Staff and Chief of Army Staff Joint Special Christmas Lunch with troops and their families at the 26 Battalion Parade Ground, Giginya Cantonment, Sokoto.

Represented by the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shuaibu, the CDS said Nigeria’s global standing depends on a military that is proactive, resilient and firmly guided by the rule of law in all theatres of operation.

General Oluyede stressed that respect for human rights and lawful conduct in warfare remain non-negotiable pillars for sustaining public trust, strengthening national unity and delivering enduring peace across the country.

He noted that battlefield professionalism not only improves operational outcomes but also reinforces citizens’ confidence in the Armed Forces as guardians of democracy and national stability.

Commending officers and men for their sacrifices, the CDS urged heightened vigilance, particularly during festive periods when criminal elements often seek to exploit public gatherings.

“I urge you to sustain high morale, deepen inter-agency synergy and remain strategically alert and proactive against all threats to lives and our environment,” he said.

General Oluyede also applauded President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his consistent support to the military and his resolve to build a secure, peaceful and stable Nigeria.

In a related charge, the Chief of Army Staff, represented by the Theatre Commander, North West Operation Fansan Yamma, Major General Idris Warrah, called on troops of the 8 Division to recommit themselves to discipline, professionalism and the highest standards of conduct.

Major General Warrah paid tribute to serving personnel and fallen heroes, stressing that their courage and supreme sacrifices must never be in vain.

“We acknowledge your sustained efforts driven by combat readiness, professionalism and joint, multi-agency cooperation in pursuit of service excellence,” he said.

Earlier, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 8 Division, Nigerian Army, Sokoto, Major General Ibikunle Ajose, reaffirmed the division’s resolve to sustain resilient operations aimed at securing lasting peace within its area of responsibility.

Ajose said troops continue to uphold core military values of loyalty, courage and selflessness while protecting communities across the North West.

The GOC, who also serves as Commander, Joint Task Force Sector 2, Operation Fansan Yamma, disclosed that sustained operations across Katsina, Kebbi, Sokoto and Zamfara states have significantly improved security and restored confidence among residents.

He added that several bandits and their foot soldiers have been neutralised, attributing the gains to strategic leadership from the CDS and consistent operational support from the Chief of Army Staff.

“I specially salute the steadfastness, discipline and focus of our troops for their result driven defence of the nation,” General Ajose said.
