Musa Na Allah, Sokoto

Sokoto State Governor, Ahmed Aliyu, has reaffirmed that the sacrifices of Nigeria’s fallen heroes will never be forgotten, describing their courage and patriotism as the foundation of the nation’s unity and survival.

He made the declaration at the 2025 Armed Forces Remembrance Day celebration held on Thursday in Sokoto, alongside military commanders, security agencies, and other stakeholders, in line with similar observances across the country.

Governor Aliyu said the annual event goes beyond ceremony, serving as a solemn reminder of the price paid by officers and men of the Armed Forces who laid down their lives in defence of Nigeria.

He pledged continued support for the military and other security agencies in their fight against banditry, terrorism and other criminal activities.

Reacting to a viral video alleging that residents of Tidibale Ward in Isa Local Government Area were fleeing their homes due to threats from a bandit leader, the governor dismissed the claims as false and misleading.

He said the footage was being circulated by disgruntled elements seeking to politicise security challenges and undermine ongoing efforts to restore peace.

Also speaking, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 8 Division of the Nigerian Army, Major General Ibikunle Ajose, said Armed Forces Remembrance Day provides an opportunity to reflect on the bravery and sacrifices of fallen heroes, whose commitment continues to inspire serving personnel.

He reaffirmed the military’s resolve to safeguard Nigeria’s unity, noting that troops remain fully engaged in operations to secure lives and property across Sokoto State and other parts of the country.

On the situation in Isa Local Government Area, Major General Ajose disclosed that the 8 Division promptly deployed additional troops to the area after receiving reports of possible tension, a move he said helped to calm the situation.

He urged citizens to support security agencies through cooperation and credible information sharing, assuring that sustained military efforts are gradually improving security.

The Armed Forces Remembrance Day is observed annually nationwide to honour fallen soldiers and reinforce national solidarity in the pursuit of peace and stability.
