The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has fired back at former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, saying he has no moral basis to blame either the APC or PDP for Nigeria’s worsening insecurity and economic hardship.

In a statement issued by its spokesperson, Hon. Seye Oladejo, the party dismissed Atiku’s recent criticism of the federal government as “delusional” and a failed attempt to distort the nation’s political history.

Oladejo argued that Atiku, who served as vice president between 1999 and 2007, was a key driver of the “economic damage” allegedly caused by the Obasanjo administration’s privatization programme. He said the exercise led to the collapse of industries, massive job losses, and the transfer of national assets to a select few.

The party further claimed that the foundations of today’s insecurity were laid during the PDP era, insisting that Boko Haram gained strength during that period while corruption flourished unchecked.

As “the engine room” of that administration, Oladejo said, Atiku cannot detach himself from the country’s past governance failures.

The Lagos APC also took aim at Atiku’s repeated attempts at the presidency, describing them as evidence of “desperation for power,” and cited his frequent party defections as a sign of political inconsistency.

It added that alleged poor development outcomes in his home state of Adamawa further weaken his credibility on national issues.

Reaffirming its support for President Bola Tinubu, the party said the administration is working to fix deep-rooted structural problems inherited from previous governments, including economic instability and long-standing security threats.

The APC urged Atiku to “avoid political amnesia,” take responsibility for his role in past administrations, and “bow out gracefully,” arguing that Nigerians no longer owe him political attention.
