The All Progressives Congress (APC) has emerged dominant in the Lagos State local government elections, clinching all 57 chairmanship seats and 375 out of 376 councillorship positions across the state.

The Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC) announced the results on Sunday, confirming APC’s clean sweep across the 20 Local Government Areas (LGAs) and 37 Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs).

However, the election delivered an unexpected upset in Ward D of Yaba LCDA, where the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Babatunde Dosunmu, a former APC member, secured a rare victory, defeating the APC candidate to become the only non-APC councillor-elect.

LASIEC described the elections as largely peaceful despite reports of low voter turnout and some allegations of irregularities in a few wards.

Electoral officials, however, maintained that the overall process was orderly.

The newly elected chairmen and councillors are expected to be sworn in later this month.
