ANA Calls for Probe of NSCDC Boss

Isiyaku Ahmed

A civil society organization under the aegis of the African Network for Anticorruption (ANA) has called on the federal government to probe the Commandant General of the National Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) for embezzling over N6 billion.

The group also extolled the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ola Olukoyede, on his mission to transform the Commission.

Speaking at a press conference tagged “Fight against corruption in Nigeria,” held on Monday at NUT Complex, Kaduna State, the President of ANA, Muhammad Musbahu Basirka, said: “As concerned and patriotic citizens of Nigeria, we commend the Chairman of EFCC, Ola Olukoyede, for his mission to transform the Commission since he assumed office.

“We also frown against the failed plan of protest by some individuals within and outside Civil Society Organizations which we consider as an attempt to undermine the efforts of the EFCC.

“It is unfortunate that over 250 people were allegedly sponsored by a former Governor and two former Ministers to carry out a massive protest against the EFCC.

“This is a threat to our democracy, and we will not stand by it.

According to him, ANA is concerned about the allegations against the Commandant General of the National Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) for embezzling over N6 billion.

“Many Nigerians have called for his immediate suspension to enable a thorough investigation into the allegation.

“However, we are disappointed that no action has been taken on the matter yet by either the Minister of Interior or the Presidency.

“As good citizens, we demand the immediate suspension of the Commandant and a thorough investigation into the allegation.

“We give the Federal Government an ultimatum of two weeks to take appropriate actions. Failure to do these will force us to call for a massive protest to show our dismay.

“We want to state that Nigeria is bigger than an individual and that we will not allow corruption to thrive.

“We urge Nigerians to join us in this fight against corruption and demand accountability from our leaders.”
