Governor Ahmed Aliyu of Sokoto State has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to transparency, accountability, and constructive engagement with the media, announcing the donation of an official vehicle to the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Sokoto State Council.

The announcement was made during a special Iftar held on Thursday at the Government House in Sokoto, where journalists, social media influencers, and senior government officials gathered to strengthen collaboration and dialogue.

Speaking on behalf of journalists, the NUJ Chairman in the state, Usman Mohammed Binji, commended the governor’s developmental efforts across key sectors such as education, healthcare, security, youth and women empowerment, and rural infrastructure.

He cited ongoing projects, including the construction of three major markets in Bodinga Local Government Area for grains, cattle, and livestock, as strategic initiatives aimed at boosting economic activities and improving livelihoods.

Binji also praised the administration’s consistency in the prompt payment of workers’ salaries, describing it as a strong indicator of responsive and people-oriented governance.

He further appreciated the governor’s support for the media while presenting requests such as the provision of an official vehicle, rehabilitation of the NUJ Press Centre, and inclusion of NUJ leadership in relevant government committees.

In addition, the NUJ chairman submitted a report on the union’s media tour of government projects conducted in November 2025.

In a related remark, Chairman of the Sokoto State Social Media Organization, Abdullahi Hashimu, lauded the governor for acknowledging the growing influence of digital media in public engagement and policy communication.

Responding, Governor Aliyu emphasized the critical role of both traditional and digital media in strengthening democracy and promoting good governance.

He called for professionalism, ethical journalism, and responsible use of digital platforms.

The governor formally approved the donation of the vehicle to the NUJ and assured that other requests, including the rehabilitation of the Press Centre and inclusion of NUJ representatives in government committees, would be considered by the Office of the Secretary to the State Government.

He reiterated his administration’s commitment to press freedom and pledged continued collaboration with the media in advancing development goals across the state.

Governor Aliyu also assured citizens of intensified efforts to address security challenges and improve social welfare, building on existing achievements.

The event’s highlight was the presentation of an Award of Appreciation to the governor by the NUJ in recognition of his support for journalism.

The gathering concluded with prayers for peace, unity, and sustained progress in Sokoto State and Nigeria at large.
