In a strategic move to consolidate party cohesion and strengthen grassroots political structures, Sokoto State Governor, Ahmed Aliyu, on Sunday convened a high level meeting with party executives and elected local government officials across the state.
The meeting, held at the Kasarawa Conference Centre, brought together party executives, elected local government chairmen, vice chairmen and councillors from all the 23 local government areas of the state.
The gathering underscored a coordinated effort to reinforce internal unity and enhance governance effectiveness at the grassroots level under the platform of the All Progressives Congress.
The session provided a platform for critical deliberations on key party matters aimed at strengthening internal democracy, fostering reconciliation and improving service delivery at the local tier of government.
Discussions also focused on a comprehensive review of the recently concluded membership registration exercise, as well as the ward and local government congresses that produced new party officers at various levels, with participants assessing their impact on institutional stability and party expansion.
Addressing the stakeholders, Governor Aliyu commended members for their commitment and active participation in the membership drive and congresses, describing the processes as largely peaceful, transparent and credible.
He stressed that unity, inclusiveness and reconciliation must remain central to the party’s operations in order to sustain its electoral strength and governance mandate.
The governor urged both returning and newly elected officials to work collaboratively, set aside differences and prioritise the collective interest of the party and the people.
He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to people-oriented policies and programmes, noting that political stability at the state level contributes significantly to broader democratic consolidation in Nigeria.
In his remarks, the State Chairman of the party, Alhaji Isah Sadiq Achida, expressed appreciation to Governor Aliyu for providing purposeful leadership and fostering an enabling atmosphere for constructive internal engagement.
He described the meeting as timely and strategic, emphasising that sustained consultation with stakeholders is vital to maintaining party cohesion and strengthening democratic institutions at both state and national levels.
Achida also lauded members for the orderly conduct displayed during the membership registration and congresses, describing it as evidence of the party’s growing maturity and institutional discipline.
