The forum of former commissioners who served under the administration of Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje wishes to address a misleading report circulating in the media, alleging that the group has endorsed the Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Barau Jibrin, as its preferred candidate for the 2027 Kano State governorship election.

“We categorically state that the report is false, unfounded, and misleading.”

This clarification comes shortly after former APC lawmakers in Kano also denied a similar report claiming they had endorsed Senator Barau Jibrin.

Speaking on behalf of the Forum on Thursday, the former Commissioner for Special Duties and aspirant for the position of APC Chairman in Kano State, Dr. Mukhtar Ishaq Yakasai, dismissed the report, saying, “There is no truth whatsoever in that story. It has no basis and no foundation. Unfortunately, people continue to spread false information simply to achieve certain political objectives.”

Dr. Yakasai explained that the Forum, like many groups of former public office holders, received an invitation from Senator Barau Jibrin for a courtesy meeting.

According to him, “We attended the meeting, we interacted, and we discussed issues that would move the party forward, unity, party strength, and matters of national development.”

He clarified that the issue of endorsement was never discussed, stressing “At no point in the meeting was there any resolution or agreement endorsing Senator Barau Jibrin as our preferred governorship candidate for 2027.

“Such a discussion never took place. Nothing close to that was mentioned.”

“The APC in Kano has a leader, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, and a state chairman, Alhaji Abdullahi Abbas Sunusi. The party has its own rules and procedures.

“We will abide by whatever decision the party leadership and members collectively make regarding the choice of candidate for the 2027 governorship election.”

Addressing speculations linking him personally to a unilateral endorsement, he added “As an aspirant for the position of Kano State APC Chairman, it is impossible and illogical for anyone to claim that I have endorsed a single individual.

“The APC has several aspirants, including A.A. Zaura, Murtala Sule Garo, and former Deputy Governor Dr. Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna and more will still emerge. How can anyone claim we endorsed one person?”

Dr. Yakasai called on party members and the general public to disregard the fabricated report, saying “Our members should ignore this baseless story.

“It is false and without any substance. I urge APC members and leaders to focus on unity and strengthening the party, not on issues that create confusion and division.”

“The Forum remains committed to the progress of the APC in Kano State and will support the collective decision of the party regarding its 2027 governorship flagbearer, he added.
