The Osun State chapter of the All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN) has announced plans to initiate the digital registration of farmers across the state, a move aimed at ensuring that farmers benefit from agricultural programs undertaken by both the government and the association.

Speaking in Osogbo at the weekend, AFAN State Chairman, Mr. Ganiyu Musefiu, said the initiative aligns with a nationwide digital registration drive already launched by the association’s national body.

He disclosed that the Osun exercise would commence in the coming weeks once arrangements are concluded and a formal date announced.

According to Musefiu, the digital registration will help streamline farmer data, enhance transparency, and ensure only genuine farmers have access to agricultural interventions, inputs, and funding.

He added that AFAN had established a central information unit equipped with a toll-free line to attend to farmers’ enquiries and complaints.

He urged farmers in Osun State to seize the opportunity to formalize their membership, saying it would open doors to numerous empowerment and support opportunities within the agricultural sector.

The AFAN chairman also called on the state government to increase support for agriculture, noting that investment in the sector would attract youth participation, create jobs, and promote food security.

Musefiu warned that Osun State could face serious food shortages if it continues to rely heavily on other states for supply.

He stressed the importance of boosting local production to prevent future crises.

He further advised that agricultural interventions should be directed strictly to committed and practicing farmers to ensure meaningful impact and sustainable development in the sector.
