The resignation of Ada Ogbu has triggered a major political shift in Enugu State, following her decision to quit the All Progressives Congress (APC) after 14 years of active involvement in the party.

Princess Adaku Ogbu Aguocha, popularly known as Ada Ogbu, formally announced her resignation in a letter dated 30 December 2025, addressed to the APC Caretaker Ward Chairman of Nara Ward I in Nkanu East Local Government Area of the state.

A former APC senatorial candidate and one of the party’s most prominent figures in Enugu, her exit has generated widespread political interest, coming amid increasing opposition realignments linked to the emerging coalition around former presidential candidate Peter Obi and the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

In her resignation letter, Ada Ogbu said her decision was informed by “evolving realities” and a personal reassessment of the most effective way to serve her constituents.

She described the move as carefully considered, explaining that it followed extensive consultations with family members, friends, and trusted political associates.

Widely regarded as one of the APC’s most steadfast voices in Enugu, particularly during periods when the party struggled to gain electoral traction in the South-East, Ada Ogbu joined the APC at its formative stage.

She was among the earliest Enugu indigenes to align with the party at its inception in Bourdillon Avenue, Lagos.

Throughout her years in the APC, she played key roles as a grassroots mobiliser, party organizer, and advocate of the party’s ideals at ward, local government and state levels.

Her political profile rose further when she emerged as the APC’s senatorial candidate for the Enugu East Senatorial District, making her one of the party’s most recognizable flag bearers in the zone.

In her letter, she expressed appreciation for the opportunities and leadership exposure she gained within the APC, describing her years in the party as formative to her understanding of democratic governance and public service.

She stressed that her departure was not driven by personal grievances, thanking party leaders and supporters while maintaining a conciliatory tone.

The timing of her resignation has fuelled speculation, as it coincides with expectations that Peter Obi will formally obtain his ADC membership card in Enugu State, a move widely seen as strategic in building a broad opposition alliance ahead of the 2027 general elections.

In recent weeks, several politicians from different parties have defected to the ADC, a trend analysts have described as the growing “Peter Obi wave.”

Although Ada Ogbu did not disclose her next political destination, Enugu State, long considered receptive to opposition politics, is expected to play a symbolic role in Obi’s ADC entry, further underscoring the significance of her resignation.
