Sean “Diddy” Combs, also known as P Diddy or Puff Daddy, is a well-known hip-hop tycoon. He has been involved in a lot of legal issues and has been in the news due to some severe claims.
recollects that Combs was detained by federal investigators in New York on Monday, September 16, following months of civil cases including claims of rape, sexual abuse, and sex trafficking.
He was turned down for release twice, thus he is being held without bond at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn.
The Independent reports that federal prosecutors have unveiled a recently unsealed indictment in which they charge Combs and his collaborators of forcing women to participate in violent sexual acts, some of which were captured on camera, under the unsettling moniker Combs allegedly termed “Freak Outs.”
“We are disappointed with the decision to pursue what we believe is an unjust prosecution of Mr. Combs by the U.S. Attorney’s Office,” said Combs’ attorney, Marc Agnifilo, in defense of his client’s innocence.
Combs is accused of cocaine possession, gun offenses, and sex trafficking, according to Sky News.
Three main charges are listed in the Southern District of New York indictment: conspiracy to engage in racketeering, sex trafficking by coercion, fraud, or force, and prostitution-related transportation.
Principal Charges: 1. Sexual Abuse and Trafficking
Combs is charged with mistreating, intimidating, and forcing women while using his position of authority to establish a criminal organization that supported sexual exploitation.
Combs, a former R&B singer and dancer, has been accused of drugging victims and forcing them to participate in “Freak Offs,” elaborate, staged sexual performances often recorded. Prosecutors claim that Combs and his associates resorted to violence and intimidation, including kidnapping, arson, and threats of physical and reputational harm. Witnesses to the alleged crimes were reportedly silenced by force.
Lawsuits against Combs have gained significant attention since November 16, 2023, when singer and dancer Casandra Ventura, also known as Cassie, filed a lawsuit alleging a decade of trafficking, rape, and physical abuse. Notable Accusations include:
- Casandra ‘Cassie’ Ventura, a well-known R&B singer and former partner of Combs, filed a lawsuit accusing him of a decade-long pattern of sexual abuse. Surveillance footage obtained by CNN in May 2024 appeared to corroborate parts of her claims, showing Combs violently chasing her in a Los Angeles hotel.
- Derrick Lee Cardello-Smith, a 51-year-old inmate, filed a lawsuit alleging Combs drugged and sexually assaulted him at a party in the 1990s. The court awarded Cardello-Smith a $100 million default judgment after Combs failed to attend a virtual hearing.
- Rodney ‘Lil Rod’ Jones, a music producer, filed a lawsuit in February 2024, claiming Combs subjected him to sexual harassment and exploitation. Jones worked with Combs from 2022 to 2023 and claimed he was forced into encounters with sex workers hired by Combs.
- Joie Dickerson-Neal, a college student, alleged Combs drugged and sexually assaulted her in 1991 while she was a college student. Crystal McKinney, a New York City recording studio owner, filed a lawsuit in May 2024, accusing Combs of sexually assaulting her in 2003.
- April Lampros, a former bandmate, accused Combs of sexual and physical abuse starting in 2009. Combs has categorically denied all allegations and urged the public to reserve judgment until all facts have been revealed.
