The Presidential Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) Initiative will provide 40 days of free bus rides for residents of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
This announcement was made by Michael Oluwagbemi, programme director of the scheme.
Highlighting the programme’s advantages, Oluwagbemi stated, “The buses are designed to be safer, more reliable, and easily accessible. On these buses for the next 40 days, people will enjoy free transportation as part of the benefits of this administration.”
The initiative doesn’t end with free rides. Oluwagbemi assured commuters of discounted fares afterwards.
“After 40 days, they will enjoy a discount because of the work of President Bola Tinubu,” he added.
Introduced on 19 August 2023, the CNG Initiative reflects President Tinubu’s promise to deliver affordable energy solutions.
To bolster the plan, the federal government signed a memorandum of understanding with key transport unions in September, facilitating the transition to CNG-powered vehicles.
This initiative aims to enhance access to sustainable and affordable transportation while reducing dependency on petrol-powered systems.
Under the groundbreaking programme, Abuja residents now have the opportunity to embrace eco-friendly travel options.
The 40-day free ride period is seen as a significant step toward addressing the transportation needs of FCT residents and promoting environmentally conscious solutions.
