The Kano State Consumer Protection Council (KSCPC) has destroyed expired, damaged and substandard products seized from traders and business operators during its enforcement operations across the state.
The exercise was led by the Special Adviser to the Governor on the Council, Hon. Hassan Muhammad Sagir, following approval by the state government for the disposal of the seized items.
Speaking during the exercise, Sagir said the products were found to be expired, damaged and unfit for human consumption, posing potential risks to public health and safety.
He explained that most of the seized items had been kept in the Council’s storage facility, where their prolonged accumulation and unpleasant odour could create environmental and health concerns for staff and residents in the surrounding communities.
He called on traders and business owners to cooperate with the Council in its efforts to prevent the circulation of expired, adulterated and substandard products in Kano State.
Sagir stressed that the Council, under the leadership of its Executive Secretary, Dr. Ibrahim Garba Muhammad, would not tolerate consumer exploitation or business practices capable of endangering public health.
He warned that such activities constituted violations of the law and would attract appropriate enforcement measures.
The Special Adviser also expressed appreciation to Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf for approving the destruction exercise and giving him the opportunity to lead the operation.
He reaffirmed his support for the state government’s programmes and expressed optimism about its prospects in the forthcoming elections.
The statement was signed by the Director of Public Enlightenment of the Council, Jamilu Mustapha Yakasai.
