Pakistan‘s central government has imposed what’s known as Governor’s Rule ― effectively a state of emergency- in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

The province is a stronghold of the opposition party led by former Prime Minister Imran Khan, who was jailed three years ago on corruption charges.

Governor’s Rule suspends the authority of the elected provincial government and places the region under direct federal control.

Critics compare it to a coup.
