Kano State Government has announced plans to construct 50 houses alongside the ongoing 5-kilometre road projects in each of the state’s 36 Local Government Areas.
The State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, said the initiative is aimed at reducing the state’s housing deficit while transforming rural communities through modern and well-planned residential settlements.
He disclosed this at a one-day stakeholders’ meeting convened to develop strategies for the smooth implementation of the projects, particularly on land compensation and the resolution of grievances arising from the construction.
Representing the governor at the meeting, Commissioner for Rural and Community Development, Dr Abdulkadir Abdussalam, said the proposed residential quarters would be provided with essential public facilities, including healthcare centres, markets and police outposts.
He said the housing component, tagged “5km Abba Gida Gida Rural Model Cities,” would complement the road projects and stimulate infrastructure and socioeconomic development across the 36 LGAs.
The Commissioner for Housing Development, Arch. Ibrahim Yakubu, and his counterpart in the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Muhammad Tajuddeen Othman, commended the administration for prioritising access to quality housing in rural communities.
Chairmen of the 36 Local Government Areas expressed support for the initiative and pledged their cooperation towards ensuring the timely commencement and completion of the projects.
The state government said the initiative forms part of Governor Yusuf’s broader commitment to developing sustainable rural infrastructure and improving living conditions across Kano State.
