The Kano State Police Command has reiterated the ban on all forms of Durbar and horse/animal-riding activities across the state, warning individuals, institutions and organisations against violating the security directive.
The Commissioner of Police, Kano State Command, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, gave the warning on Friday, October 2, 2026, during a press briefing at the Bompai Police Headquarters, Kano.
Bakori said the ban was imposed by the Kano State Government after consultations with relevant security stakeholders as part of efforts to preserve public peace and maintain public order.
He said reports of apparent breaches of the directive had prompted the police and other security agencies to restate that the ban remained in force and was binding on everyone, regardless of status or position.
According to him, the security threats that necessitated the ban had been subjected to serious checks but remained potent, making continued enforcement necessary.
The police commissioner said the primary responsibility of law enforcement and security agencies was to maintain peace, safety and order, stressing that security authorities would not allow activities capable of jeopardising public safety.
He disclosed that a joint security meeting had resolved that any individual, institution or organisation intending to organise any form of Durbar or horse/animal-riding activity in a public place must give at least 72 hours’ prior written notice to the Kano State Police Command through the Office of the Commissioner of Police.
Bakori explained that the notice would enable the security agencies to conduct the necessary security assessment and make appropriate arrangements to safeguard public safety and maintain order.
He urged all concerned to comply strictly with lawful security directives and cooperate with security agencies.
The commissioner assured residents that law enforcement and security agencies in Kano remained united and committed to enforcing the law and safeguarding public peace and order across the state.
“The Law Enforcement Agencies remain resolute, united and committed to enforcing the law and safeguarding public peace and order in the State,” he said.
