Nigeria’s Falconets have stormed into the Round of 16 of the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup in record-breaking fashion after thrashing New Caledonia 10-1.

The emphatic victory, the biggest-ever win recorded by Nigeria at the U-20 Women’s World Cup, saw the Falconets finish second in Group F and secure their place in the knockout stage.

Nigeria wasted little time asserting their dominance, scoring four goals within the opening 27 minutes.

Ramotalahi Kareem opened the scoring from the penalty spot in the 17th minute before Rebecca Adegbemile doubled the lead two minutes later.

Janet Seimeyeha Akekoromowei added a third in the 23rd minute, while Kareem struck again four minutes later to put Nigeria 4-0 ahead.

The Falconets maintained their attacking intensity after the break, with Winner Onajite David making it 5-0 in the 60th minute.

Kareem completed her hat-trick in the 64th minute before Tosin Rafiu added another goal in the 70th minute.

Adegbemile scored her second of the night in the 74th minute, while David completed her own hat-trick with goals in the 75th and 90+4th minutes.

New Caledonia managed a consolation goal through Joceline Kourevi in the 89th minute, but the damage had already been done.

The final whistle confirmed a historic 10-1 victory for the Falconets, with Kareem and David scoring hat-tricks and Adegbemile contributing a brace.

The result sealed Nigeria’s passage to the Round of 16 as Group F runners-up and underlined the Falconets’ status as one of the tournament’s leading attacking sides.
