The Kano State Police Command has arrested two suspects in connection with the death of Ibrahim Khalil Danshagamu of Gaida Quarters, Kumbotso Local Government Area.
The incident occurred on Monday, 8 September 2026, at about 11:30 p.m., when suspected hoodlums allegedly broke into the victim’s residence and attacked him with sharp objects.
The Command’s spokesperson, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, said operatives of the Kumbotso Police Division responded to a distress call from the Gaida Vigilante Group and rushed the victim to Murtala Mohammed Specialists Hospital, Kano, where he was confirmed dead on arrival.
According to the statement, the arrests followed an intelligence-driven operation ordered by Commissioner of Police Ibrahim Adamu Bakori and carried out by the Kumbotso Police Division in collaboration with tactical units and community stakeholders.
The two suspects are currently in police custody and undergoing interrogation, while efforts are ongoing to arrest other persons who may have been involved.
Police investigators are obtaining statements and conducting forensic procedures to establish the circumstances and motive behind the attack, the statement added.
CP Bakori expressed concern over the incident and condoled with the deceased’s family, assuring residents that the command would pursue the case to its logical conclusion.
“The Kano State Police Command will not relent in its mandate to protect lives and property. We assure the good people of Kano that justice will be pursued to its logical conclusion,” he said.
The command commended the Gaida Vigilante Group for providing timely information that enabled the police to respond swiftly, describing the development as an example of effective community policing.
Police said they have deployed additional patrols and intelligence-gathering operations in Gaida and surrounding areas to maintain peace and prevent further incidents.
The suspects are expected to be charged in court after investigations are concluded.
