As part of an effort to boost its internally generated revenue Jigawa state government on Friday sensitized and trained accountants and financial officers of Ministries and Parastetals on the newly introduced Jigawa Integrated Tax Administration System (JIGTAS).
The government organized the training through the state Internal Revenue Service to strengthen the capacity of the participants on the new digital platform.
Speaking at the sensitization session, the executive chairman of Jigawa Internal Revenue Services, Dr Nasir Sabo Idris, said the new tax collection digital platform was developed to enhance tax collection and remittance to revenue services.
“The purpose of this gathering is to bring all Accountants and other financial officers in the state Ministries Departments and Agencies on how to use the newly developed Digital payment platform called Jigawa Integrated Tax Administration System (JIGTAS).
The Executive Chairman, however, noted that the new digital platform will help in tax administration and also tackle the issue of multiple taxation.
“Before this occasion we meet with all key stakeholders at the state level, local government, and other private Organizations operating in the state to harmonize and consolidate the tax administration system for addressing the multiple taxation complained taxpayers in the state.
“Improving tax collaboration means improvement for revenue, and an increase of revenue means more money for public infrastructures and social services that will improve the social and economic life of the taxpayers and general public.
“The administration of Governor Malam Umar Namadi is practically committed to making Jigawa great, let’s join our hands to support the mission by effective tax collection practices through the use of the new digital platform (JIGTAS)” the chairman called.
In his presentation at the workshop, the Accountant General of the State, Mr Abdullahi SG Shehu said, that migration from the old system of tax collection to the new automation system is pivotal for improving and enhancing tax collection in a contemporary world.
“We must embrace a Digital Tax Collection System to simplify our work and make the Jigawa state tax collection process efficient and reliable against any revenue leakages,” the AG stated.
