Troops of Sector 2, Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have rescued a kidnapped victim, arrested suspects, recovered a locally fabricated firearm, and reclaimed 126 rustled livestock during separate operations across Katsina State.
According to a statement issued on Tuesday by the Media Information Officer of the Joint Task Force, Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja, the operations were carried out on July 26 in Charanchi, Batsari, and Bakori Local Government Areas.
The statement said troops, working alongside the Katsina State Community Watch Corps, responded to a distress call over terrorist activity in Karkata Village, Charanchi LGA, in the early hours of July 26.
The troops reportedly engaged the terrorists with superior firepower, forcing them to abandon a kidnapped victim before fleeing into nearby bushes. The victim was rescued unharmed and reunited with her family.
In another operation, troops, in collaboration with personnel of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), conducted coordinated raids at Wagin, Tundu Mobi, and Chadawaki communities in Batsari LGA.
The raid resulted in the arrest of several suspects and the recovery of a locally fabricated firearm loaded with five cartridges, alongside other exhibits. The suspects and recovered items have been handed over to the NDLEA for further investigation.
Also on July 26, troops acting on credible intelligence laid an ambush along a suspected terrorist crossing point at Yankwani Village in Bakori LGA.
The troops engaged suspected terrorists attempting to move rustled livestock through the area. The suspects fled under sustained military pressure, abandoning 126 animals comprising 83 cows and 43 sheep.
The recovered livestock were handed over to the Chairman of the Peacekeeping Committee in Bakori, in the presence of local government officials, for identification and return to their rightful owners.
