The Edo State Independent Electoral Commission (EDSIEC) has declared candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC) winners of all 18 chairmanship seats and the 192 councillorship positions contested in Saturday’s local government election.

Announcing the results at a news conference in Benin on Sunday, EDSIEC Chairman, Jonathan Aifuobhokhan, said the election was successfully conducted across the state’s 18 local government areas and 192 wards.

He said accreditation, voting, sorting, counting, collation and declaration of results were carried out in line with the Edo State Local Government Electoral Law, 2022, as amended in 2026, and other applicable regulations.

“Based on the official results declared by the returning officers, the commission hereby declares that the All Progressives Congress won the 18 local government chairmanship positions and all the 192 councillorship seats contested in the election,” Aifuobhokhan said.

The EDSIEC chairman described the exercise as largely peaceful, noting that minor operational challenges recorded in a few locations did not affect the overall outcome of the poll.

He commended returning officers for discharging their duties professionally and praised Governor Monday Okpebholo for providing an enabling environment for the commission to carry out its constitutional responsibilities.

Aifuobhokhan also lauded political parties, candidates, traditional and religious leaders, civil society organisations, security agencies, election observers, the media and EDSIEC personnel for their roles in ensuring a peaceful election.

He urged aggrieved parties to seek legal redress through the appropriate channels, stressing that the electoral process remained open to judicial review.

The commission said certificates of return would be presented to the elected chairmen and councillors on Monday.

Twelve political parties participated in the election, although major opposition parties, including the PDP, NDC, and ADC, boycotted the poll.
