A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano State and Chairman of the Governing Board of the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria (FMBN), Nasiru Gawuna, has resigned, citing compliance with electoral regulations.

Gawuna’s resignation was conveyed in a letter dated 27 March 2026 and takes immediate effect.

The former APC governorship candidate in Kano State is reportedly finalising plans to defect to the African Democratic Congress on Tuesday, amid ongoing political realignments involving former Kano State governor, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.

In the letter, Gawuna explained that his decision was in line with a presidential directive requiring political appointees to step down ahead of political activities, in accordance with provisions of the Electoral Act.

He expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the opportunity to serve, describing his tenure as both an honour and a privilege.

Gawuna also reflected on his future political journey, noting that he would seek divine guidance in determining his next steps.

He assured that he would facilitate a smooth transition, pledging to hand over his responsibilities in line with established procedures and directives.

The development is seen as part of broader political shifts ahead of the 2027 general elections.
