Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has inaugurated a new Anti-Corruption and Transparency Unit (ACTU), aimed at promoting transparency and integrity within its operations.

During the event held in Abuja on Tuesday, TCN’s Managing Director, Engr. Sule Abdulaziz, called on employees to remain dedicated to efficiently delivering power to Nigerians.

Speaking through the Executive Director of Human Resources and Corporate Services, Mrs. Abiodun Afolabi, Abdulaziz emphasized the importance of integrity in TCN’s role of connecting generation plants with distribution companies in Nigeria’s electricity supply chain. He noted that the newly inaugurated unit would help the company identify and mitigate potential risks.

“Some may wonder what this unit will contribute to TCN and how it will impact our operations. The core objectives of the ACTU lie in enhancing transparency within our processes by identifying potential risks and inefficiencies that may hinder our ability to meet the growing demands of the power sector,” said Abdulaziz.

He added, “The ACTU will also provide a point of reference for ethics and compliance, ensuring that decision-making processes align with TCN’s vision of accountability and integrity. This, in turn, will strengthen public confidence in our ability to deliver on our mandate ethically and effectively.”

At the event, the Chairman of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), Dr. Musa Aliyu, represented by Olusegun Adigun, Director of the System Studies and Review Department, reiterated the commission’s commitment to fostering transparency and accountability within the public service.

Aliyu explained that ACTU, an initiative of the ICPC, serves as an internal mechanism for preventing corruption in line with global best practices. He noted that the unit complements the ICPC’s efforts in building strong institutions and promoting accountability across government Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs).

“The Transmission Company of Nigeria must not only fulfill its role responsibly but also ensure that its members are diligent, responsive, and dedicated to their duties,” Aliyu added.

In her remarks, the Chairman of TCN’s ACTU, Bembo Erakevwe, pledged the unit’s commitment to upholding the Code of Ethics and working towards a more transparent and accountable TCN.
