A coalition of Community-Based Organizations (CBOs) from the Jigawa Northeast zone, comprising over 40 organizations drawn from eight local government areas, has presented the 2026 citizens’ inputs to the Senator representing the zone for consideration and possible inclusion in the 2026 annual budget.

The engagement also featured a review and discussion of ongoing development activities across the zone, with stakeholders emphasizing the importance of sustained collaboration between government and civil society in addressing community needs.

The Senator, represented by Hon. Engr. Sabo Muhammad Yankoli, Special Adviser to the Governor of Jigawa State, highlighted the Senator’s legislative achievements over the past two and a half years, including the sponsorship of key bills on security, education, and healthcare, as well as initiatives aimed at institutional development. He further noted that several constituency projects are currently being executed across the zone, including security infrastructure and renovation works in selected local government areas.

Hon. Habibu Khamisu, Special Assistant to the Governor on Stakeholders Engagement, commended the coalition and other civil society groups for their proactive role in mobilizing and articulating citizens’ priorities.

He described the exercise as a vital democratic process that strengthens participatory governance and inclusive development.

Speaking on behalf of the coalition, the Coordinating Secretary, Comrade Ahmed Ilallah, explained that the documentation of citizens’ demands is an annual initiative undertaken by CBOs and civil society organizations to ensure that grassroots priorities are reflected in public budgeting.

He emphasized that the submissions represent collective inputs from communities across the eight local government areas and largely focus on projects within the mandate of the Federal Government.

In his response, the Senator acknowledged receipt of the submissions, expressed appreciation for the coalition’s commitment to community development, and assured stakeholders of his readiness to take the necessary legislative and administrative steps toward addressing the identified needs.
