The Northern Reconciliation Group (NRG) has expressed deep concern over the rising wave of violent attacks, abductions, kidnappings, and banditry affecting communities across Northern Nigeria, warning that the situation has reached the level of a regional and national security emergency.

In a statement issued, signed by Joseph Lengmang (Pro tempore Secretary) and Prof. Usman Yusuf (Pro tempore Spokesperson) and made available to Stallion Times on Sunday, the non-partisan group said insecurity has continued to spread from rural communities to semi-urban areas, leaving many families trapped in fear, grief, and uncertainty.

The statement noted that repeated incidents of violence have resulted in loss of lives, displacement of residents, and the destruction of livelihoods in several states across the region.

The NRG extended its solidarity to victims of violent attacks and to communities that have suffered repeated assaults, describing the ongoing tragedies as a deep wound to shared humanity and a serious threat to the social fabric of Northern Nigeria.

According to the group, the scale and persistence of insecurity in the region should no longer be viewed as isolated or localized challenges but as a coordinated crisis that demands urgent, comprehensive, and humane responses from relevant authorities.

The NRG reaffirmed its commitment to peace through dialogue, healing, and reconciliation, stressing that the protection of life and human dignity remains the most fundamental responsibility of governance.

To address the worsening situation, the NRG called for the intensification of lawful and intelligence-driven operations to secure the release of abducted persons and dismantle criminal networks operating across the region.

The NRG also urged the decisive implementation of enhanced security measures and early-warning systems specifically designed to protect vulnerable communities.

In addition, the group advocated a renewed commitment to justice, accountability, and community-driven approaches aimed at rebuilding trust between citizens and state institutions.

The NRG said its appeal was made in the spirit of unity and shared responsibility, emphasizing that human security must rise above all divisions.

It added that the group remains committed to supporting, through inclusive and honest dialogue, all efforts geared towards restoring safety, dignity, and lasting peace across Northern Nigeria.
