The Nigeria Police Force has confirmed the occurrence of an abduction incident at Kurmin Wali, a remote community in Kajuru Local Government Area of Kaduna State, and has launched coordinated security operations to rescue the victims and restore calm to the area.
In a statement on Tuesday, the Force spokesperson, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, acknowledged the widespread concern and anxiety generated by initial reports of the incident, stressing that the safety of citizens remains the Force’s utmost priority.
According to the statement, following the report, the Kaduna State Governor convened an emergency meeting of the State Security Council at the Government House in Kaduna.
However, during the meeting, some individuals from the affected local government area disputed the report, describing it as false, despite earlier confirmation by the Police.
“This development created uncertainty and underscored the need for caution and thorough verification before issuing definitive public statements on such a sensitive issue.
“The Police explained that comments made by the Commissioner of Police, Kaduna State Command, during a media interaction were aimed at preventing unnecessary panic while facts were being verified.
“The Force noted that the remarks, which were widely misinterpreted, were not a denial of the incident but a measured response pending confirmation of details from the field, including the identities and number of those affected.
“Subsequent verification from operational units and intelligence sources has now confirmed that the abduction did occur.
“Consequently, the Nigerian Police Force has activated coordinated security operations in collaboration with other security agencies, with a focus on locating and safely rescuing the victims, as well as stabilizing the affected community,” the statement added.
It further said that the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has ordered the full deployment of critical operational and intelligence assets to Kajuru and neighbouring communities.
These include the deployment of tactical units, intensified patrols, targeted search-and-rescue missions, and other proactive measures to protect lives and property.
The Police have appealed to members of the public and the media to exercise patience and cooperate with security agencies, urging them to rely on official police communications for verified information.
The Force also cautioned against speculation and sensational reporting, noting that such actions could undermine ongoing operations or heighten public anxiety.
The Nigeria Police Force reaffirmed its commitment to the safety of all citizens and assured the public that updates would be provided as investigations and rescue efforts continue.
