The Nigerian Army has strongly condemned a false and malicious report published by Sahara Reporters alleging that soldiers are threatening mutiny over salaries and allowances.

Army Spokesperson, Colonel Appolonia Anele in a press release on Monday said the claim is entirely unfounded, misleading, and deliberately crafted to sensationalize issues and undermine public confidence in the Armed Forces and national security.

She said at no time has there been any threat or discussion of mutiny within the Nigerian Army.

“Mutiny is a serious offence under military law and is completely alien to the values, discipline, and professionalism of Nigerian Army personnel, who remain steadfastly loyal to the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces.

“The publication relied solely on anonymous, unverifiable sources circulated through non-official channels. Such fabrications do not reflect the views, conduct, or disposition of officers and soldiers of the Nigerian Army, who are trained to address welfare concerns through established internal procedures rather than through the media or unofficial platforms.

“For clarity, promotion increments are only one component of military remuneration and should not be falsely presented as total earnings. Military pay includes consolidated salaries, rank-based allowances, operational, field, and hardship allowances, as well as other entitlements that vary by deployment, qualification, and responsibility.

“The Nigerian Army, working with the Armed Forces of Nigeria and relevant government authorities, continues to implement structured welfare reforms, including periodic salary reviews, improved operational allowances, better accommodation, enhanced medical care, and insurance packages for personnel and their families. These efforts are ongoing within approved government frameworks.

“Since assuming office, the Chief of Army Staff has actively engaged relevant authorities on troop welfare, with positive outcomes already being recorded.

“The Federal Government of Nigeria, under the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, remains committed to the welfare and operational effectiveness of the Armed Forces, particularly amid evolving security challenges.

“The Nigerian Army remains a cohesive, disciplined, and professional institution, fully committed to its constitutional mandate of defending Nigeria’s sovereignty and supporting internal security operations. The public is urged to disregard this irresponsible report and rely only on official Nigerian Army communication channels for accurate information.”
