The Governor of Plateau State, Barrister Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, has led a delegation of prominent indigenes of the state on a strategic visit to the Minister of Works, Engr. David Umahi, to press for the urgent dualisation of the Akwanga–Jos Road.

Governor Mutfwang described the Akwanga–Jos Road as a critical federal highway and the main gateway into Plateau State, noting that it plays a vital role in connecting the North Central region with other parts of the country. He said the road is central to commerce, mobility, and regional integration.

According to the Governor, the current condition of the highway poses serious safety risks to motorists, hampers economic activities, and disrupts the smooth movement of people and goods.

He expressed appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, for adopting the Akwanga–Jos Road as one of the Federal Government’s legacy projects under the Renewed Hope Agenda.

Governor Mutfwang further outlined the expected benefits of the dualisation project, including improved security, reduced travel time, increased trade, and accelerated socio-economic development for Plateau State and neighbouring states.

He appealed for the project to be accorded priority in line with the Federal Government’s development agenda, stressing that the people of Plateau State would be deeply appreciative of its timely execution.

In his response, the Minister of Works, Engr. David Umahi, welcomed the Governor and his delegation and commended Mutfwang for his political alignment with the All Progressives Congress (APC).

He reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to the dualisation of the Akwanga–Jos Road and assured that the project would be signed and commenced.

Engr. Umahi acknowledged the strategic importance of the road and pledged to give the request due consideration within the context of available resources and ongoing national infrastructure priorities.

He subsequently directed relevant officials to immediately engage with the contractor to facilitate the signing of the contract and the commencement of work.

The visit underscores the Plateau State Government’s resolve to improve critical infrastructure and enhance economic growth, safety, and connectivity across the state and the wider North Central region.
