President Abdel Fattah El Sisi has decided to allocate several plots of land in North Sinai Governorate, including areas near Rafah, as part of his national plan to develop the Sinai Peninsula.

The Official Gazette published Presidential Decree No. 736 of 2025, which allocates state-owned land in North Sinai to the General Authority for Land and Dry Ports. The land will be used to establish logistics zones.

The decision covers three plots of land near Rafah, El Hassana, and in the Baghdad area in North Sinai, with a total area of about 6,227,658 square metres.

Article 2 of the decree states that the Armed Forces will retain ownership of any military land located within the boundaries of the allocated plots.

The move comes as part of Egypt’s national strategy to develop the Sinai Peninsula, which has seen large-scale infrastructure projects in recent years.

These include roads, ports, railway lines, and industrial and logistics zones, aimed at turning Sinai into a regional trade and logistics hub linking the Mediterranean Sea with the Red Sea and strengthening connections with regional and international markets.

The project is linked to a broader logistical corridor that includes the development of Al-Arish Port, the railway line from Bir Al-Abed to Al-Arish, Rafah, and Taba, as well as connectivity projects with Red Sea ports such as Taba and Nuweiba.

The goal is to establish a trade corridor crossing Sinai, connecting the Mediterranean to the Red Sea.
