The 10th Oyo State House of Assembly has concluded a two-day capacity-building workshop themed “Effective Legislature for Impactful Governance” in Ibadan.
The intensive program, which ended on Wednesday, brought together Honourable Members of the Assembly to strengthen their legislative skills, deepen their understanding of core governance principles, and reinforce their commitment to transparent and accountable lawmaking.
Facilitators delivered insightful sessions on key areas central to modern legislative practice, including legislative oversight and accountability, checks and balances among the arms of government, budget and fiscal governance, as well as anti-corruption tools within the legislature.
Participants actively engaged in discussions, shared experiences, and explored practical strategies aimed at enhancing the legislature’s role in promoting good governance across the state.
Speaking on the outcomes of the workshop, a member of the Assembly expressed satisfaction with the level of commitment demonstrated by lawmakers.
“I am proud of the dedication shown by our Honourable Members,” the lawmaker said. “The knowledge and insights gained from this workshop will significantly enhance our performance and enable us to provide better representation for the people of Oyo State.”
The workshop also reaffirmed the Assembly’s support for the administration of Governor Seyi Makinde, particularly its efforts to drive sustainable development and people-centred policies in the state.
As the 10th Assembly continues its legislative agenda, the skills acquired during the program are expected to translate into stronger oversight, improved fiscal discipline, and more effective anti-corruption measures, all aimed at building a prosperous future for residents of Oyo State.
The event highlights the Assembly’s proactive approach to capacity development and its determination to uphold the highest standards of democratic governance.
