In the Municipal Local Government, more than 90,664 children under the age of five are expected to receive polio vaccines and other routine immunizations against child-killer diseases in the ongoing campaign.
The Primary Health Care Coordinator, Lawan Jafar, disclosed this during the flag-off ceremony held at Sharada Ward.
He stressed the need for community, traditional, and religious leaders, and other stakeholders, to support vaccination teams to ensure full coverage.
Jafar further urged vaccinators to collaborate closely with village and ward heads to guarantee that every eligible child receives the vaccines.
Speaking at the event, the Chairman of the Local Government Council, Salim Hashim Idris Gwangwazo, represented by the Supervisory Councilor for Health, Mustapha Usman Darma, called on stakeholders to sensitize their communities on the importance of immunization for children and pregnant women.
He also encouraged husbands to support their families in attending routine vaccination clinics.
A representative of the World Health Organization (WHO), Safiyya Usman Abdu, speaking on behalf of donor agencies, reaffirmed their commitment to supporting the government in strengthening healthcare delivery, particularly for women and children.
The Sharada District Head, Dallatun Kano, Bashir Mahe, represented by Isah Bashir, pledged that traditional and religious leaders would continue to back the vaccination effort to meet set targets.
The Area Immunization Manager, Rabi’u Muktar, and the Health Educator, Aminu Baba, noted that vaccinators and supervisors had been adequately trained to ensure the success of the campaign.
