Uba Sani Presents Kaduna’s N985.9bn 2026 Budget, Allocates 71% to Capital Projects

Kaduna State Governor, Senator Uba Sani, on Monday presented the 2026 Appropriation Bill to the Kaduna State House of Assembly, proposing a total expenditure of N985,915,136,574.60 aimed at consolidating ongoing reforms across security, infrastructure, education, health, agriculture and social development.

Tagged a budget of renewal, resilience and long-term vision, the proposal allocates 71% (capital expenditure) to developmental projects and 29% to recurrent obligations.

According to the breakdown of the budget, Education and Infrastructure each receive 25% of the total allocation, Health gets 15%, Agriculture and Food Security 11%, Security 6%, Social Development 5%, Environment and Climate Action 4%, while Governance and Administration takes 5%.

Governor Sani highlighted major achievements recorded by his administration in 2025, noting that the proposed 2026 budget is designed to deepen gains already made.

He disclosed that the state has executed 140 road projects spanning 1,335 kilometres, with 64 roads completed under the Roads Development Initiative.

He also emphasised the rollout of Northern Nigeria’s first Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system, featuring a 24-kilometre corridor, CNG-powered buses, digital ticketing and modern terminals, adding that commuters have saved over N500 million through free and subsidised transport.

In the education sector, the governor said the government had reopened 535 schools and returned over 300,000 out-of-school children to classrooms.

He listed other interventions including the construction of 736 new classrooms, renovation of 1,220, fencing of 39 schools, drilling of 165 boreholes and provision of 595 VIP toilets.

On healthcare, Sani said all 255 Primary Healthcare Centres are being upgraded to Level 2 standard, with 15 General Hospitals undergoing reconstruction or major upgrades, five now completed.

He further noted that the 300-bed Bola Ahmed Tinubu Specialist Hospital marks a significant expansion of the state’s healthcare capacity.

The governor also reported major gains in agriculture, stating that investment in the sector surged from N1.4 billion in 2023 to N74.2 billion in 2025, with over 900 trucks of free fertilizer distributed to smallholder farmers.

He reaffirmed that his administration has contracted no new loans, but has paid N114.9 billion in debt servicing.

Under the participatory budgeting framework, each of the 255 wards received N100 million for community-prioritised projects.

Governor Sani urged lawmakers to support the budget, stressing that it reflects the state’s commitment to building “a secure, productive and inclusive Kaduna State.”
