The Nigeria Police, Kogi State Command, has dismissed circulating rumours of a bandit invasion in the Zango, Crusher, and Felele communities of Lokoja, describing the reports as “fake news” aimed at creating unnecessary tension.
In a statement issued on Thursday by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, William Ovye Aya, said CP Nazir Bello Kankarofi warned individuals spreading false alarms to desist immediately, stressing that anyone found responsible for such misinformation will be arrested and prosecuted.
Reaffirming the deployment of tactical units, including the Police Mobile Force and counter-terrorism teams, to strategic locations, CP Kankarofi assured residents of their safety.
He urged members of the affected communities and the entire state to go about their normal activities and promptly report any suspicious movement to security agencies.
The CP further emphasised that security is a collective responsibility, calling on citizens to cooperate with law enforcement to maintain peace and safety across Kogi State.
