The Kano State Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, has urged members of the Radio, Television, Theatre and Arts Workers Union of Nigeria (RATTAWU) to strengthen their visibility and amplify their contribution to societal development.

He stressed the need for the Union to remain active on issues of national importance that have direct implications for Kano State.

Comrade Waiya made the call while receiving the Executive Members of the Union, led by the State Chairman, Comrade Babangida Biyamusu, who paid him a courtesy and appreciation visit in his office. He reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to supporting RATTAWU, just as it has continued to accommodate and engage other media unions in the state.

The Commissioner noted that the Ministry has been supporting all media and information development unions, to enhance effective information dissemination across the state.

He encouraged RATTAWU to empower its members through regular in-house training and capacity-building programmes, emphasizing that continuous professional development is essential in the ever-evolving media landscape. Comrade Waiya highlighted the Union’s pivotal role as a statewide body of media professionals who contribute significantly to responsible communication and public enlightenment. He urged them to remain proactive, visible, and responsive to key developmental issues affecting Kano State.

The delegation also presented a number of proposed interventions aimed at strengthening their operations and improving service delivery. In response, the Commissioner assured them of the Ministry’s full support, both at the ministerial level and from the State Government at large, as efforts continue to enhance the Union’s impact and improve the professional capacity of its members.

In his remarks, the Chairman of RATTAWU, Comrade Babangida Biyamusu, expressed profound appreciation to the Commissioner for his consistent support to the Union. He outlined some of the challenges facing RATTAWU, particularly the issue of office accommodation, and appealed for the Ministry’s intervention to address the problem.
