The Sasakawa Africa Association (SAA) headquarters delegation on Tuesday received a warm and colorful welcome at Bakin Rijiya in Lafia Local Government Area as their field tour of Nasarawa State entered its second day.

The team, led by Dr. Gambo Abdulhamid, Deputy Country Director of SAA Nigeria, included Ms. Minako Terao and Ms. Sawa Suzuki from the Association’s headquarters.

They were greeted with traditional songs, dances, and local delicacies prepared by the community.

During the visit, the Nasara Multipurpose Cooperative Society (MPCS) showcased the tangible results of SAA’s Nutrition-Sensitive Agriculture interventions.

The cooperative highlighted its success in cultivating, processing, and consuming Orange-Fleshed Sweet Potato and promoting vitamin A maize as part of efforts to enhance household nutrition and food security.

The delegation also visited the Kingdom Multipliers MPCS cassava seed plot and the Rice Value Chain Development Centre (RVCDC) in Agwatashi, both established with support from Japan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA).

Earlier in the day, the team paid a royal courtesy visit to His Royal Majesty Dr. Umar Ojiri Abubakar Apeshi, the Osoho of Olosoho and traditional ruler of Agwatashi in Obi Local Government Area, where they discussed the progress and sustainability of ongoing agricultural initiatives in the region.

The visits form part of SAA’s broader mission to strengthen smallholder farmers’ resilience through improved agricultural practices, nutrition education, and value chain development across Nigeria.
