The Northern Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Support Group has raised alarm over what it described as a calculated attempt by some members of the National Working Committee (NWC) to frustrate the forthcoming National Convention of the party scheduled to hold in Ibadan, Oyo State November 15th 2025.

In a statement signed by the group coordinator, Yusuf Abubakar Dingyadi, and issued to newsmen in Sokoto on Wednesday, the group expressed deep disappointment over the alleged involvement of key party officials in ongoing legal battles designed to distract and weaken the party’s unity ahead of the crucial convention.

According to the statement, “The deliberate support of certain NWC members for the unnecessary litigation at the Federal High Court, Abuja, is a dangerous move and a clear indication of plans by Nyesom Wike and his loyalists to undermine the PDP’s rebuilding efforts through incessant court actions and internal sabotage.”

The group specifically accused the National Secretary, National Legal Adviser, and National Organising Secretary of “conniving to derail all arrangements already put in place for a successful and transparent convention,” describing their actions as a betrayal of the principles of internal democracy and collective responsibility enshrined in the PDP constitution.

The statement emphasized that the forthcoming National Convention remains the party’s highest decision-making platform and represents a pivotal opportunity to restore unity, discipline, and electoral confidence among members nationwide.

“Dragging the party’s internal issues to court by some so-called leaders in Abia and Imo States, with the support of certain NWC members, is a direct assault on the soul of the PDP.

“It is a disservice to millions of party members who still believe in the PDP as the only viable alternative capable of defending democracy and rescuing Nigeria from misrule,” the group said

The Northern PDP Support Group urged all genuine party stakeholders to respect internal conflict resolution mechanisms and focus on strengthening the party ahead of future elections.

It also reaffirmed its confidence in the leadership of the National Chairman, Ambassador Umar Iliya Damagum, and the convention planning committees to deliver a credible, transparent, and inclusive convention in Ibadan.

The group further cautioned former PDP National Youth Leader, Hon. Udeh Okoye, to desist from spreading falsehoods and propaganda against the party leadership, especially after his reported defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

“It will be in the best interest of peace for Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu, Hon. Okoye, and others who have chosen to abandon the PDP to concentrate on their new political platforms, rather than waging unnecessary campaigns of calumny against a party they no longer belong to,” the statement added.

Reiterating its faith in the resilience of the PDP, the group called on members across the North and the entire country to rise above personal ambitions and unite for the survival of the party and the protection of Nigeria’s democracy.

“Our party will emerge stronger, more united, and better positioned to reclaim its mandate after the Ibadan Convention,” the statement concluded.
