President Bola Tinubu has lifted the state of emergency imposed on Rivers State, directing Governor Siminalayi Fubara to resume duties on Thursday.

In a statement released by the Presidency on Wednesday, Tinubu also ordered the Deputy Governor, Dr. Ngozi Nma Odu, and members of the Rivers State House of Assembly, including Speaker Martins Amaewhule, to return to their offices.

The President declared the emergency rule in the oil-rich state six months ago.

Announcing its suspension, Tinubu said: “It therefore gives me great pleasure to declare that the emergency in Rivers State of Nigeria shall end with effect from midnight today.”

With the decision, normal governance activities in Rivers State are expected to resume in full on Thursday.
