The Adamawa State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has successfully conducted its ward congresses across all 226 wards, marking another step in the party’s ongoing nationwide grassroots exercises.

Chairman of the PDP Ward Congress in the state, Gebon Timothy Kataps, expressed satisfaction with the smooth and peaceful conduct of the exercise.

Speaking to journalists on Saturday after monitoring three wards, he commended the impressive turnout of delegates, noting that both elective contests and consensus arrangements were handled in line with the party’s constitution.

“We are impressed with the early turnout of men and women of the party who came out in large numbers to vote or affirm consensus candidates. The unity and orderliness we have observed so far are commendable,” Kataps said.

He particularly praised the role of women, highlighting their patience and discipline during the process. “The turnout of women is impressive. In several polling units, they came out in large numbers and maintained order even when men were moving around,” he added.

On the participation of civil servants in politics, Kataps clarified that while freedom of association is guaranteed by law, any civil servant seeking elective office must resign before contesting.

Although he acknowledged the PDP is currently facing challenges, he maintained optimism that the party would rebound.

“Yes, we are facing our fair share of challenges, some self-inflicted and others engineered by detractors. But the PDP is deeply rooted in Nigeria, and Nigerians love the party. The PDP will rise again,” he assured.

The Adamawa congresses form part of the PDP’s nationwide ward congresses aimed at strengthening its grassroots structures ahead of future elections.
