African leaders concluded the second Africa Climate Summit in Addis Ababa on Wednesday with a strong call to scale up investment in renewable energy and mobilize more global climate financing.

In their final declaration, leaders pledged to accelerate the continent’s green transition while proposing the creation of a coalition of critical mineral producers to strengthen Africa’s role in the global energy market.

The African Union also urged the establishment of a more inclusive international climate finance system that eases the debt burden on developing nations.

The summit, held under the theme “Financing Africa’s Resilient and Green Development”, brought together heads of state, researchers, civil society, and international partners.

Officials said the declaration will serve as Africa’s common position at the upcoming COP30 climate talks in November, where the continent aims to present a united front in pushing for fair financing and stronger support for its climate priorities.
