Critical stakeholders including Security Agencies, judiciary, Legal practitioners, Civil Society Organizations, and the Media held a strategic meeting in Jigawa state to advocate and promote gender equality in the implementation of the Administration of Criminal Justice law in the state.
The two-day meeting was sponsored by the CLEEN Foundation with the support of the MacArthur Foundation and had representatives from all the critical stakeholders organizations.
In his opening address, the Executive Director of Clean Foundation, Mr Gad Peter, said the meeting which tags as policy dialogue was aimed at bringing all the principal actors in the Administration of Criminal Justice to discuss and strategize on addressing the gaps identified in the system.
“We all believed that effective implementation of Administration of Criminal Justice Law will promote and enhance justice, equity, fairness, peace, and stability in the country and everyone has a role to play in achieving the desired goals.
“Women and individuals from marginalized groups often face unique challenges and biases within the criminal justice process, Addressing these issues is not only the right thing to do but critical to achieve a truly just system.
“Together we can work towards a criminal justice system that is not only effective and fair but also a reflective of our collective commitment to justice and equality for all,” Mr Peter stated
During the meeting issues of bad cultural practices, tradition, political prejudice, low awareness, and corruption were among major challenges in the implementation of unbiased and effective Administration of Criminal Justice Law in the society.
All the participants have promised to join hands together in addressing the identified key challenges and promoting equality in the state and county justice system.
