The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has seized over 11.2 million kilogrammes of illicit drugs, destroyed 1,572 hectares of cannabis farms, and arrested 67,345 suspects in the past 54 months.

NDLEA Chairman, Brig.-Gen. Buba Marwa (rtd), disclosed this in Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State, on Saturday during a seminar organised by the Ijebu-Ode Council of Olorituns, according to the agency’s spokesman, Femi Babafemi.

Marwa said the suspects included 95 drug barons — some of them prominent businesspeople, socialites, titleholders, and even law enforcement officials.

“This shows how deeply the rot had penetrated our social fabric,” he said.

The NDLEA boss noted that the agency had intensified its crackdown on drug trafficking and abuse through nationwide raids, school outreach, community sensitisation, and rehabilitation programmes.

Within the period, 11,584 sensitisation lectures were held in schools, workplaces, worship centres, motor parks, palaces, and communities. The agency also treated and rehabilitated 27,187 drug users through its 30 centres nationwide, while thousands more received help via its toll-free helpline.

Marwa urged communities to partner with NDLEA, report suspicious activities, and support advocacy campaigns.

He also called for the revival of moral and spiritual values, stressing that “the path to greatness is paved with hard work, vision, and purpose, not drugs or violence.”

Chairman of the occasion, Senator Lekan Mustapha, described Marwa as a visionary leader whose reforms have transformed the NDLEA into a respected institution both locally and internationally.
