Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, on Friday received a wave of defectors from the All Progressives Congress (APC) into the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), hailing the move as proof of his administration’s growing popularity and impact.
The event, held at Government House, Kano, brought prominent politicians and their supporters from Dawakin Tofa constituency, who pledged full allegiance to the NNPP.
In a statement by the Governor’s spokesperson, Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, the Governor described the development as “a crucial milestone” in the party’s political journey.
Visibly delighted, Governor Yusuf recalled touring all 44 local government areas during the 2023 campaign, including Dawakin Tofa, where he promised to deliver the dividends of democracy.
He pointed to completed projects such as the long-abandoned five-kilometer road in Dawakin Tofa and pledged to build a new school in the constituency.
“Dawakin Tofa is pivotal to our struggle, and I am the happiest person to witness this massive defection from APC to NNPP,” he said, extending gratitude to the NNPP National Leader, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, for his support.
The Governor assured the newcomers of full integration without discrimination, warned against any form of intimidation, and promised even more development.
He also announced a forthcoming familiarization tour ahead of the 2027 elections, and a major policy shift that will transform Dawanau International Market into an autonomous agency with a Managing Director and governing board.
Commending Dawakin Tofa Local Government Chairman for generating ₦500 million internally and executing projects with the funds, Governor Yusuf vowed to address all community concerns.
Local Government Chairman, Hon. Anas Danmaliki, praised the Governor’s leadership, highlighting completed works in 15 primary schools and sponsorship for over 1,000 tertiary students.
NNPP State Chairman, Hon. Hashim Dungurawa, congratulated the defectors, expressing confidence that Dawakin Tofa would deliver for the party in 2027, “just as Gwale did in 2023.”
Special Adviser on Publicity and Dawakin Tofa NNPP leader, Alhaji Ahmad Muhammad Speaker, revealed that many defectors joined voluntarily and urged completion of abandoned projects in Dawanau and Tumfafi wards.
Representatives of the defectors—including Hon. Nura Tumfafi, Hon. Isyaku Dahiru Kwa, and others, applauded the Governor’s strides in health, education, civil service reform, pensions, and human capital development.
They also commended Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa and Chairman Anas Muktar Bello for their service to the people.
