Choguel Maïga, former Prime Minister of Mali, is under official investigation over allegations of misappropriating public funds during his time in office.

The country’s Office of the Auditor General has submitted evidence to the judiciary pointing to serious financial irregularities and suspected embezzlement involving Maïga’s administration.

Judicial sources confirm that the case, already dubbed the “Choguel Maïga Files,” is now under review by the Attorney General of Mali’s Supreme Court.

According to reports by RFI, the investigation centers on two major issues: suspicious spending tied to the inauguration of a public infrastructure project, and questionable mission-related payments issued during Maïga’s tenure.

At the heart of the case is the alleged misuse of nearly 2 billion CFA francs (approximately $3.3 million USD) by the Prime Minister’s Office.

A source close to the probe emphasized that “no one is above the law,” underscoring the judiciary’s resolve to pursue accountability.

While legal proceedings loom, Maïga’s allies have dismissed the allegations as politically motivated.

One former aide said the ex-prime minister “is not afraid” and will cooperate fully if summoned.

Others believe the investigation is retaliation for Maïga’s outspoken criticism of Mali’s ruling military junta.

“He has files of his own,” a close associate warned, suggesting Maïga may respond with damaging revelations of his own.
