The Nigerian Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC) has apprehended five young men for engaging in illegal mining activities at Salihawa Village Head of Rinji in Gwarzo Local Government Area, defying an official ban on mining in the area.

The arrests followed a directive issued by the Chairman of Gwarzo Local Government, Dr. Mani Tsoho Gwarzo, who recently prohibited all mining activities due to security concerns.

NSCDC Commandant CSC Aminu Muhammad Hildu led the operation and formally handed over the suspects to Dr. Gwarzo at his office on Monday morning.

Expressing disappointment over the youths’ defiance, Dr. Gwarzo reiterated that the mining ban had been widely communicated via radio announcements and mosque sermons during Friday prayers. He commended the NSCDC team for their swift action and directed that the suspects be prosecuted according to the law.
