The Benue State Government has unveiled a new security outfit, the Quick Response Squad (QRS), aimed at enhancing rapid intervention in security emergencies across all 23 local government areas of the state.
Governor Hyacinth Alia officially launched the initiative on Tuesday in Makurdi.
Represented by his Deputy, Sam Ode, the Governor explained that the QRS is designed to provide swift responses to security threats.
He emphasized that the squad is not a replacement for existing security agencies but a complementary force to boost their efforts.
“The operation comprises personnel drawn from the Civil Protection Guard, Vigilante Group of Nigeria, local hunters, and the Joint Task Force (JTF),” the Governor stated.
Governor Alia described the initiative as part of the government’s renewed approach to safeguarding lives and property by harnessing local structures for peace and security.
“This is just one of several steps we’re taking to secure Benue. We expect absolute loyalty and commitment from the officers involved,” he added.
The QRS, he said, will act as a first responder force while working in close coordination with conventional security agencies.
He also announced plans to establish a Security Trust Fund to cater to the financial and logistical needs of the QRS and other security outfits in the state.
Periodic evaluations of the squad’s operations, the Governor said, will be conducted to ensure discipline, accountability, and effectiveness.
Also speaking at the event, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Security and Internal Affairs, Joe Har, reaffirmed the administration’s dedication to protecting lives and property.
He called on citizens to support the government’s security efforts.
