The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, on Monday received delegations from the National Association of Retired Police Officers of Nigeria (NARPON) and retired officers under the Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS) at the Force Headquarters, Louis Edet House, Abuja.
In a statement on Tuesday, Force spokesperson, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, said the NARPON delegation was led by retired Assistant Inspector-General of Police, AIG Paul O. Ochonu, while the CPS group was led by retired Commissioner of Police, CP Henry Njoku, Esq.
Both groups expressed sincere appreciation to the IGP for his consistent efforts in addressing the welfare and security concerns of retired police personnel.
The meetings focused on key issues affecting both serving and retired police officers, with particular emphasis on the persistent pension challenges confronting retirees.
In a series of constructive engagements, both parties explored sustainable solutions to ensure the timely and efficient disbursement of entitlements.
IGP Egbetokun reassured the visiting delegations of his unwavering commitment, and that of the Federal Government, to prioritizing the welfare of all members of the Nigeria Police Force, both active and retired.
He stated that proactive steps are already underway to improve the support structure for retirees.
He acknowledged the sacrifices and contributions of retired officers to national security, stressing that they deserve continued care, support, and recognition in retirement.
The IGP also pledged to work collaboratively with retired officers and relevant government agencies to resolve outstanding issues and enhance the post-service experience of police veterans.
The visit ended on a hopeful note, with both delegations commending the IGP’s leadership style and promising their continued support for initiatives aimed at reforming and strengthening the Police Force.
